Taka 22,130 crore proposed for defence

The government has sanctioned Taka 22,130 crore for the Ministry of Defence, Armed Forces Division and other services, in the proposed budget for the financial year (FY) 2016-2017. 

The allocation is Taka 1,436 crore higher than the revised budget of the previous FY 2015-16 of Taka 20, 694 crore. 

Of the total amount of Taka 22,130 crore allocated in the FY 2016-17, Tk 21, 654 crore has been allocated for the Ministry of Defence, TK 447 crore for other services and Tk 29 crore for Armed Forces Division.

Announcing the budget proposals at the Jatiya Sangsad here today, Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith said, "--- our efforts to improve the capacity and efficiency of army, navy, air force and border guards as well as to modernize them will continue."
