Taka 22,699 crore proposed for LGRD

Finance Minister AMA Muhith today proposed an allocation of Taka 22,699 crore, including development and non-development expenditures combined, for the two divisions - local government, and rural development and cooperatives - for the 2016-17 fiscal year which is higher Tk 2011 crore than last revised budget of 2015-16 fiscal year.

For the ministry of local government, Taka 21,322 crore, including Taka 32,37 crore non-development and Taka 19,462 crore development expenditures, were 

allocated in the proposed budget which is Taka 2,105 crore higher than the revised budget of 2015-16 FY.

Meanwhile, for the ministry of rural development and cooperatives, Taka 1377 crore including Tk 463 crore for non-development and the rest of others as development expenditures, were proposed for the current fiscal which was Tk 111 crore lower than the revised budget (2015-16 fiscal).

"We are planning to convert 14,650 km kacha road into pucca road, maintain 34,500 km pucca road, construct 84,300 meter bridge on pucca roads, construct or maintain culverts, develop 570 hat bazars and growth centres, and build 175 upazila and 494 union parishad complexes across the country," Finance Minister 

AMA Muhith informed the Jatiya Sangsad (parliament) during his budget speech this afternoon. 

He said the present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working to ensure developing communication network in rural and urban areas.

"Besides, in order for poor families to build capital through small savings, we have taken initiatives to expand the scope of 'One House One Farm' project," the minister added.
