Corona Surokkha is an artificial intelligence powered mobile application built for law enforcement agencies that allows them to scan anyone’s face with their mobile phone camera and identify whether or not they have been quarantined for health safety purposes, using face recognition technology.

This will allow law enforcement officers to efficiently monitor and patrol the streets of Bangladesh, while easily identifying anyone breaking the law by stepping outside their homes or quarantine facilities without permission. This will also allow law enforcement officers to verify if someone has the necessary permission from the government to move around in the city, for example emergency workers.

It is an initiative taken jointly by the ICT Division, a2i, Startup Bangladesh, Skill Development for Mobile Game and Application Project and Gaze following instructions from the Honourable State Minister of ICT Mr. Zunaid Ahmed Palak. The software and artificial intelligence technology was built by Gaze, a Bangladeshi artificial intelligence startup specializing in computer vision R&D.

The features of this app includes:

>> Face recognition technology integrated with several quarantined databases in Bangladesh, allowing law enforcement officers to identify quarantined individuals with a single photo

>> Registration of new quarantined individuals using photo and identity details like NID or Passport Number

>> Self-registration and GPS tracking for quarantined individuals using the same app,  allowing law enforcers to remotely track all quarantined people using their own smartphones.

Shehzad Noor Taus Priyo, co-founder & CEO of Gaze said, “We are very grateful to the government for giving us this opportunity. We look forward to helping law enforcers maintain safety and security across the country.”

Motasim Bir Rahman, co-founder & COO of Gaze said, “In these tumultuous times, we believe this app can really help enforce serious health safety and lockdown measures by the government. We will add more features to this app to help law enforcement agencies as much s we can.”
