The government has taken a decision to expand temperature screening measures at airports and other ports of entry into Bangladesh to cover all inbound travellers.

Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) took the decision in a bid to prevent a deadly coronavirus from spreading.

Meerjady Sabrina Flora, director of IEDCR announced the move at a media briefing on Saturday.

While talking in the press conference, she said that the new screening procedure came into effect on Friday and is set to continue until further notice.

“Previously, only travellers arriving in the country from China were required to undergo screening tests. Now, all planes arriving at airports in the country are being screened in an effort to stem the virus as it can be transmitted from one person to another,” he said.

The number of confirmed cases of the new coronavirus has risen again in China while fatalities increased to 722 on Saturday.
