Tk 19,276 cr proposed for home ministry

The government has allocated Taka 19,276 crore for the Ministry of Home in the proposed budget for the financial year (FY) 2016-2017. 

Of the total allocation, Taka 17,776 crore was allocated for non-development sector while Taka 1, 500 crore for development sector. 

Additional Taka 6,884 crore was proposed for this fiscal year as a total of Taka 12,392 crore was sanctioned in the last FY 2015-16. 

The government had allocated Taka 15,969 crore for Home Ministry in the revised budget of the previous FY 2015-2016.

Announcing the budget proposals at the Jatiya Sangsad here today, Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith said, "For ensuring public safety as well as maintaining conducive environment for trade and economic activities in the country, we believe that there is no alternative to law enforcement agencies which are efficient, strong and have modern values." 

"The process of creating 50,000 new posts and recruiting personnel in the police force is in progress. Besides, as many as 100 female members have been appointed in Border Guard Bangladesh for the first time this year. More female members will be added gradually," he also said.
