465 women victims of violence in October: Mahila Parishad

At least 465 women and girls fell victim to violence in October across the country, said a report of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad (BMP), a voluntary women’s organisation.

Among the victims, 183 women and girls were victims of rape.

The BMP data, revealed on Sunday, shows that at least 465 women fell victim to violence in last month. Of them, 151 were raped, 23 women were victims of gang-rape and seven women were killed after the rape.

Thirty others were also victim of attempt-to-rape, said the report, prepared based on various reports of 14 newspapers of the country.

At least 17 women were victims of sexual harassment, 15 women abducted, 45 women and girls were killed due to various reasons, 19 women faced physical torturing and five of them were killed due to dowry, nine women and girls six were victims of eve-teasing, 31 girls were victims of early marriage, nine women committed suicide, 53 were killed mysteriously, according to the report.
