Indian authorities are investigating allegations that dozens of women have been forced to have gynaecological examinations to show their workfitness, says BBC.

The women, trainee government clerks in Surat district, Gujarat, say they've also been pregnancy tested.

An official report is expected about the alleged incident within 15 days.

This comes days after college students staying in a hostel in Gujarat said they were forced to remove their panties to prove they didn't menstruate themselves.

The new complaint was lodged on Thursday by a Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) employee union, a civic body that employed the party of about 100 women.

The incident occurred during physical tests at a government-run hospital, the Surat Municipal Institute for Medical Education and Research (SMIMER), according to the group. The exams are compulsory for anyone who wants to continue their research following three years of probation.

The women claim that during the humiliating "finger tests'' administered by female doctors, they were forced to stand nude in a room together in groups of 10.
