Green Mind Society (GMS), a platform to work for better environment, today demanded of the government to be ruthless to stop food adulteration in the country.

The demand came from a human chain organised by the society in front of Jatiya Press Club in the city, said a press release.

GMS President Amir Hossain Masud, Vice-President Ajgor Hossain, General Secretary Faruk Hossain, Bangladesh Paribesh Andolan (BAPA) Joint Secretary Humayun Kabir Suman joined the human chain, among others.

The speakers said, it is also our social responsibility to create wide- scale awareness to create safe food networks in the country, as adulterators are using chemicals in food to make high profits, harming our lives.

Meagre punishment is not enough for those who are involved in adulteration of foods, the government should take stern action against them, they added.

According to World Health Organisation (WHO), around 4,20,000 people die each year eating contaminated food globally with children under five accounting for nearly one third of the deaths.
