Putting an end to all the hypes and speculations, Bangladesh’s first-ever feature film with a surfing theme, ‘No Dorai’ (Not Afraid), finally has got censor certificate.

Bangladesh Film Censor Board gave the censor certificate to the film on Monday after some corrections.

The much anticipated film with a female protagonist, which is made mostly in the Chittagongian dialect, was labeled as unqualified to get the clearance from the Censor Board on Thursday, due to the use of some ‘objectionable’ slang. However, the board appreciated the movie for its unique theme and message.

The director of the movie Tanim Rahman Aungshu justified the use of the language objected to as ‘needed’ for the storyline and character portrayal.

Producer of the film and chairman of STAR Cineplex Mahboob Rahman posted on his Facebook profile after receiving the news of approval that “I would like to thank everyone who supported and stood by us as Censor Board denied clearance to ‘No Dorai’ due to objectionable Chittagonian language. I am so happy and excited that finally we got clearance today.”

The film No Dorai will be released in theatre on November 29.

Star Cineplex also arranged a press conference on Tuesday at Dhaka Club in the capital’s Shahbagh area to brief on the film. Producer of the film Mahbur Rahman Ruhel, director Tanim Rahman Aungshu, artistes of the film Sariful Raaz, Sunerah Binte Kamal, among others, were present on the occasion.

The story written by acclaimed Indian scriptwriter Shyamol Sengupta, the film ‘No Dorai’ sheds light on the life of a girl named Ayesha who braves criticism from sections of society to pursue her dream of becoming a successful surfer. Sunerah Binte Kamal as Ayesha and Sariful Raaz as Sohel feature in the lead roles.

Singer Xefer Rahman is the executive producer of ‘No Dorai’ while the cinematographer is Suman Sarker.
