A housewife was found dead at Munjilkhola in Sonargaon upazila, Narayanganj on Friday, 17 days after she had gone missing.

The deceased was identified as Minu Akhtar, 35, former wife of Junayed Mia, 45, of the area.

Family sources said Minu went missing on May 21.

Her mother filed a general diary (GD) with Sonargaon Police Station on May 23 and later informed Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) of it.

Following the allegation, Rab members arrested Minu’s former husband Junayed from Shimrail in Siddhirganj on Thursday night and recovered the victim’s body from Munjilkhola on Friday morning following information gleaned from him.

At a press conference, commanding officer of Rab–9 Shamser Uddin said Minu got divorced with Junayed in 2018 but they continued their relationship although Junayed was engaged in the second marriage.

On May 21 night, Minu went to Junayed’s house while his second wife was at work. At that time, Junayed demanded Tk 20,000 from her for business purpose which Minu declined to give and this led to an altercation between them.

At one stage, Junayed beat and strangled her, the Rab official said.

He dumped her body into a ditch near his house on that night and the following day, he dug it out and buried again it under sand near his house before fleeing.
