JSC results: Girls fare far better than boys

Girls have outperformed boys in the eighth grader terminal tests Junior School Certificate, securing higher pass rates and more GPA 5.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid announced the results this afternoon, which saw a drastic decline in the number of GPA 5 achievers.

This year, 14,06,317 girls took part in the JSC examinations against 11,92,852 boys. Last year, 12,91,689 girls and 11,21,022 boys sat for the tests.

Among the total 66,108 GPA 5 achievers, which was a third of last year’s in statistics, 39,905 were girls and the remaining 28,190 were boys.

The overall pass rate, which was higher than last year at 85.28 per cent, was also tilting towards girls. Girls had an 86.43 per cent pass rate, boys had 85.12 per cent.
