2 hijras among 3 hurt in Savar gun attack

Three people including two hijras were shot when miscreants opened fire on a private car in Ashulia area of Savar this morning.

The injured were identified as Rashida Hijra, 40, chief of the Ashulia hijra community, Shikha Hijra, 28, and the driver of the private car, Nurun Nabi, 24.

Four hijras from Jamgora area of Ashulia were heading towards Tongi to attend a meeting of the hijra community when a microbus barred their way near Ashulia bridge, according to Akhi who was also travelling in the car.

Then, three to four unidentified miscreants wearing masks got off the microbus and started firing indiscriminately at the car injuring the three, Akhi said.

The injured were admitted to Enam Medical College and Hospital in Savar in critical condition, Dr Shuvo, emergency medical officer of the hospital, said.

The reasons behind the attack could not be known yet, but police are investigating the matter, said Rezaul Huque, officer-in-charge of Ashulia Police Station.
