10 women killed while collecting iftar items

At least 10 women were killed and at least 40 injured in a stampede while collecting iftar items distributed by a private company at Nolua union in Satkania upazila of Chattogram on Monday.
The identities of the deceased could not be ascertained immediately. All the victims, aged between 40 and 50 years.
According to sources, the stampede took place at around 10 am as hundreds of destitute people crowded there for collecting iftar items ahead of Ramadan, leaving 10 women dead on the spot.
Chattogram Additional Police Super (South) AKM Emran Bhuiyan said that over 50,000 people gathered to collect zakat clothes and iftar items at a home of Md Shajahan, who is the owner of the famous industrial group Kabir Steel Re-rolling Mills (KSRM).
The people came from different upazilas of Chattogram, also Cox`s Bazar.
It was initially thought that the accident took place due to the mismanagement.
