Woman held on charge of financing militancy: Police

Police claimed to have arrested a woman for her alleged involvement in financing a plan to carry out an attack on 15 August 2017, the National Mourning Day.  

The woman is Homaira alias Nabila.

Homaira was arrested from the Gulshan on Thursday, Counter Terrorsim and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit deputy commissioner Mohammad Mahibul Islam Khan said.

He added that Homaira was the chief of woman wing, 'Bat Woman' of neo-JMB. The police official also claimed that she regularly financed in militant activities.

Police foiled the attempt of a militant attack on 15 August last year after law enforcers had raided the Hotel Olio International in the capital.

In connection with the incident, police detained a suicidal attacker Saiful's friend Abdullah Bin Mosaddek Sami.

Later, Tanvir Yeasin Karim, owner of publication organisation 'Karim International' was shown arrested on 20 November.

Homaira is the wife of Tanvir Yeasin Karim.

According to police, Homaira instigates Tanvir to involve in militancy. She also financed militant activities through some Akram Hossain Khan. Akram is now under police custody.

CTTC unit claimed that they earlier knew the involvement of Homaira in militancy, but the policemen did not arrest her as she was pregnant.

Homaira completed Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) from Viqarunnisa Noon School and College. She studied in North South University and Malaysia. Her father owns a luxurious shopping mall in the capital's Hatirpool area.

Police also said that another woman was detained for her alleged involvement in militant activities.

The woman, Sadia Afroze alias Nina, 24, is a student is a fourth-year student at Accounting department of Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur.

Sadia was held from her home at Dhubni village of Hatibandha in Lalmonirhat on Wednesday night.
