2 cr women to be self-reliant: Chumki

State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroz Chumki said, government has taken a project for making two crore women economically self-reliant.

"The government has launched Income Generating Activity (IGA) for empowering women economically with Taka 250 crore across the country," she said this as the chief guest at Cox's Bazar here yesterday.

The state minister said under the project marginal women would get training on 18 trades free of cost, adding, "We will also give them transport allowance."

She said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina launched various programmes for under privileged section of women, and she is only the hope for poor rural women," according to a message received here.

Chumki said that the global forums appreciated Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her various initiatives for empowering women across the country.

She inaugurated a town based project "Marginal women Development" (2nd Phase) conducted by National Women Sangstha at Shaheed Doulat ground.

Chaired by chairman of Cox's Bazar district National Women Sangstha Kaniz Fatema Ahmed the function was also addressed among others, by chairman of National Women Sangstha Professor Momtaz Begum Advocate, lawmakers Khorsed Ara Hoq, Ashek Ullah Rafiq and Saimum Sarwar Kamal and joint secretary Anwara Begum, deputy commissioner Mohammad Ali Hossain, project director Nurun Nahar Begum Hena.

The city-based marginalized women would get training on trades like sewing,embroidery, fashion design, catering, business management, mushroom and bee farming through the project.
