Six including 5 of a family killed in Taraganj road accident

Six persons, including five of a family, were killed in a fatal road accident at Jigartola point on the Rangpur-Dinajpur highway under Taraganj upazila here on Friday afternoon, police sources said. 

The accident occurred when a Syedpur-bound passenger minibus from Rangpur hit a battery-run auto-rickshaw from behind, killing six persons on the spot. 

The deceased were identified as Shahidul Islam, 40, his wife Dulali Begum, 30, their son Mostakin, 4, Shahanaz Begum, 22, and Rawshan Ara Begum, 50, and driver of the ill-fated auto rickshaw. 

"Identity of the deceased auto rickshaw driver could not be known immediately," Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Taraganj Thana Inspector Abdul Latif Mian said. 

All of the deceased persons hailed from Chengmari Majhpara village under nearby Jaldhaka upazila of Nilphamari district. 

Two other passengers, Tahera Begum and her husband, of the auto rickshaw from the same village, sustained minor injuries and released from Taraganj Upazila Health Complex after providing primary aid. 

The deceased persons were going to their relatives in Kamarpukur village under Syedpur upazila in Nilphamari district when the accident occurred. 

"The process of filing a case in this connection with Taraganj Thana was in progress," the OC said, adding that efforts were on to seize the killer minibus and nab its driver and helper.
