67th founding anniversary of Awami League observed

Leaders and activists of the ruling Awami League and its front organizations today paid tribute at the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Bangabandhu Bhaban at Dhanmondi road no-32 on the occasion of 67th founding anniversary of Bangladesh Awami League.

In 1949, the party was formed as Awami Muslim League at the historical Rose Garden at old town here on this day, but later it became a non-communal organization with the name of Awami League.

To mark the day, Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid homage and placed floral wreaths at the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in front of Bangabandhu Bhaban at around 8.30am. Sheikh Hasina stood for sometimes with solemn silence in front of the portrait of Bangabandhu.

Members of the cabinet, state ministers and party lawmakers also accompanied her during this time.

Then Prime Minister and Awami League chief Sheikh Hasina along with party leaders placed floral wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu on behalf of the Awami League.

Awami League Advisory Council Member Amir Hossain Amu and Tofael Ahmed, Presidium Member Begum Matia Chaudhury, Obaidul Quader, Engineer Mosharraf Hossain and Advocate Sahara Khatun ,Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif, Organizing secretary Ahmad Hossain, Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury and Mizbah Uddin Siraj, Labour Affairs Secretary Habibur Rahman Siraj, agriculture affairs secretary Dr Abdur Razzaque, Information and Research secretary Afzal Hossain, among others, were present.

Later, the Prime Minister along with the party leaders inaugurated the 67th founding anniversary programmes of Bangladesh Awami League by releasing pigeon and balloons including hoisting national and party flags at around 8.45am. National anthem was orchestrated during this time.

Meanwhile, people of all strata including different political, social, cultural and professional organizations paid deep respect to Bangabandhu by placing floral wreaths at the portrait of Father of the Nation following the Prime Minister left the spot.

The Dhaka City South Awami League led by its President Abul Hasnat and General Secretary Shah e Alam Murad, Dhaka City North Awami League led by its president A K M Rahamatullah and General Secretary Sadek Khan, Awami Jubo League led by its President Omar Faruque Chowdhury and General Secretary Harunur Rashid, Jatiya Sramik League led by its President Sukkur Mahmud and General Secretary Sirajul Islam, Chattra League led by its President Saifur Rahman Sohag and General Secretary SM Zakir Hossain, Krishak League led by its President Motahar Hossain Mollah and its General Secretary Advocate Shamsul Haq Reza, Swechhasebak League led by Molla Abu Kawsar and Pankaj Debnath and Jubo Mahila League led by Nazma Akhter and its General Secretary Apu Ukil also gave floral wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu.

Besides, various organizations including Mahila Awami League, Jubo League (Dhaka city North and South), Swechhasebak League (Dhaka city North and South), Dhaka University Chhatra League, Dhaka College Chhatra League, Titumir College Chatra League, Eden College Chatra League and Bangabandhu Cultural Alliance also were placed floral wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu on the occasion.
