No conspiracy can hinder current pace of development-Lawmakers

The lawmakers today categorically said that no conspiracy can hinder the current pace of development as the present government is steadily leading the country towards its coveted goal of becoming a middle-income country by 2021.

They said those opposing the present pro-people government have been up with many conspiracies including secret killings, but the determined Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina by way of her pledges given to the nation is now close to placing Bangladesh on a dignified position in the world.

The lawmakers representing both the treasury and the opposition benches during their discussion on the new budget said Bangladesh's largest ever fiscal document with Taka 340, 605 crore amply proves how a successful Prime Minister can fulfill the dream of a nation.

Finance Minister Abul Mal Abdul Muhith placed the Taka 340,605 crore national budget on June 2 for 2016-17 fiscal setting the GDP growth target at 7.2 percent and fixed a set of programmes to turn the country into an example of modern state by 2041.

Taking part in a general discussion, State Minister for Finance and Planning MA Mannan said that the proposed budget is the reflection of Awami League's ideals.

Terming the government as investment friendly, he said Bangladesh has achieved the highest investment compared to other members of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC).

The government has gradually expanded the tax area at the district level while agriculture sector has been kept out of the tax net. Moreover, Bangladesh is now exporting food grains fulfilling the local requirements as government provides subsidy in the sector, he said.

The government has introduced several allowances including old age and disability allowances to reduce poverty.

They alleged that BNP is hatching conspiracy to come to power by using the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad. They are also trying to portray Bangladesh as a fanatic state.

They said there will be no discussion with the conspirators and killers BNP who burnt people alive, uprooted trees burnt educational institutions in the name of democratic movement.

They emphasized the need for intensive efforts to accelerate the development activities through new investments for creating jobs and raising the economy to a new height.

Expressing the government's strong political will to move forward with gender equality and women's empowerment, they said the government is pledge-bound to continue to work for the socio-economic and political empowerment of the women and higher education for girls.

Bangladesh would create more opportunities for women ensuring their access to politics, business for continuing the country's image as role mode for women empowerment.

The budget can be implemented by ensuring proper revenue collection, they said.

The global awards received by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina are the evidence of the successes of Bangladesh.

The lawmakers prayed to the Almighty Allah for the long life of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, so that she can materialize the dream of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman through her outstanding performance.

Treasury bench member State Minister for Land Saifuzzaman Chowdhury, Abdul Mannan, Colonel (Retd) Faruk Khan, Saber Hossain Chowdhury, Kamrul Ashraf Khan, Mahjabeen Khaled, Pinu Khan, Nurul Islam Sujan, Enamul Huq opposition bench member Ziauddin Bablu, Noor-E-Hasna Lily Chowdhury, Rawshan Ara Mannan took part in the discussion.

Earlier, they paid their cordial tribute to the memory of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, four national leaders, martyred freedom fighters and also those who made their utmost sacrifices during the War of Liberation and all subsequent democratic movements in the country.

They also greeted the Prime Minister and also the party chief Sheikh Hasina as well as the party leaders on the 67th founding anniversary of Awami League.
