SC upholds bail for Barrister Shakila

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court today passed an order, upholding bail for Barrister Shakila Farzana, accused of financing a Chittagong-based militant group.

"An Appellate Division bench headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha passed the order this, removing all the legal bars to free the lawyer from the jail," said Sagir Hossain Leon, counsel of the accused.

Earlier on February 22, 2016, a High Court division bench comprising Justice Farid Ahmed and Justice A.K.M. Zahirul Hoque granted her bail till the framing of charges in two cases lodged against her under anti-terrorism act. 

Shakila was arrested on August 18, 2015, along with two of her accomplices Hasanuzzaman Liton and Mahfuz Chowdhury Bapon on charges of funding Shaheed Hamza Brigade.
