Industries Minister Amir Hussain Amu has said that the first autopsy of college student Sohagi Jahan Tonu, who was found dead inside the Comilla Cantonment, was flawed.

He also said the case would be based on the DNA test that indicated that she was raped.

“The investigation got delayed because the first autopsy report was misleading and faulty,” the minister said after a cabinet meeting on law and order situation Sunday afternoon.

The body of Tonu, a student of Victoria College, was found a few yards from her house in Comilla Cantonment area on March 20. Police suspected she was raped.

Comilla Medical College Hospital carried out the post-mortem of Tonu’s body on March 21. The doctors there did not find any signs of rape.

A second autopsy was done after the court ordered the exhumation of her body. The report is still awaited.

But DNA test on evidences collected by the CID indicated Tonu was raped before she was killed.

Nazmul Karim Khan, CID’s special superintendent for Comilla and Noakhali, told bdnews24.com on May 15, “The DNA test revealed traces of semen of a few men.”

Industries minister Amu said: “The DNA test has pointed to the involvement of three persons. The investigators are following this lead for necessary action.”

Sunday’s meeting was attended by LGRD Minister Khandker Mosharraf Hosain, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Law Minister Anisul Huq, Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu, Water Resources Minister Anisul Islam Mahmud, External Affairs Minister Nurul Islam BSC and State Minister for Labour, Mujibul Haque Chunnu.
