PM calls for best use of education facilities

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today urged the students and guardians for best use of the opportunities and facilities made available by the government for promotion of education and find job after the education.

She said her government has attached highest importance to education aimed at making true the vision of government to make Bangladesh as middle income country by 2021 and developed one by 2041. "So education is the best tool to achieve the goal," she said adding that a nation cannot prosper without educating its people.

The Prime Minister was distributing awards among the students who showed their creative ability at national level competition on their various academic subjects in last two years.

She announced that every upazila of the country would have at least one government school and one government college. In view of that, she said a list of the upzilas has already been prepared and work would begin soon.

Sheikh Hasina distributed a cheque of Taka one lakh and a medal to each of 24 such students who scored best in the competitions in 2015 and 2016 under an government initiative title 'Srijanshil Medha Onneshan" (Searching Creative Talents) launched in 2013.

The award was given in four categories such as- Language and Literature, Daily Science/Science, Math and Computer and Bangladesh Studies and War of Liberation.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid presided over the award distribution programme arranged by the Ministry of Education at Osmani Memorial Hall in the city.

Secretary of the education ministry M Sohrab Husain and Director General of the Department of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Prof. Fahima Khatun addressed the function, among others. From the award recipients Shakil Reza Ifty of Dinajpur Zila School and Siratal Mostakim Sraboni of Rajuk Uttara Model College also spoke on the occasion.

Congratulating the talented students and its organizers the Prime Minister said it's a great job to pick the talented students from grassroots level and give them award and encouragement. "Searching talented students is very important as we want to build Bangladesh as a developed and prosperous nation," she said.

Sheikh Hasina said Bangladesh was born with independent statehood under the leadership of Bangabandhu to stamp out poverty of the people. "None could restrain Bangladesh from independence and none would be able to hold back the independent nation from earning its economic prosperity," she said.

The Prime Minister said Bangladesh would certainly regain its honour and dignity amidst world comity which the nation had achieved through independence in 1971. "The nation's glory and pride dashed down after the brutal killing of Bangabandhu," she said.

Sheikh Hasina said during his only three and a half years tenure Bangabandhu along with other reconstruction and rehabilitation jobs, had presented the nation with a worthy constitution in which education was given highest importance with making the primary education compulsory and female education totally complimentary.

"Bangabandhu taught us that education is the best investment for a nation," the Prime Minister said adding that even in grave economic constraint Bangabandhu made the all primary schools nationalized for promotion of education from primary to higher level.

"We want to make the dream of Bangabandhu true. So we are distributing text books free of cost and giving scholarships to lessen the burden of educational cost and guardians don't neglect the education of their kids," she said.

Pointing out her government's cherished vision of building a 'Digital Bangladesh' the Prime Minister said, "It was not only our announcement. We have taken real steps for use of technology universally across the country."

"Use of technology can expedite socio-economic development and create employment opportunities," she said.

Sheikh Hasina said her government is in the course of implementing a broad-based education policy which pinned on expansion of education in every nook and corner of the country including hilly, remote and char areas.

Praising the brilliance of the country's boys and girls the Prime Minister said, "I think our children are most genius than the children of any other country. However, they need opportunity to flourish," she said adding that the government is working in this area to create opportunity for them.

The Prime Minister hoped that the award would inspire the recipients as well as their fellows to come up with their courage to exhibit their talents in future. "We need such golden sons and daughters to build the desired golden Bangladesh of Bangabandhu," she said.
