Creating awareness about family planning underscored

Speakers at a function here underscored the need for creating awareness about family planning activities among the fertile couples to check the population growth of the country.

The speakers said if the unexpected pregnancies could be controlled in a greater perspective the country's population would come down to a tolerable rate easily.

They made the comments while addressing an advocacy meeting and press briefing organized by department of family planning on Family Planning Service Week-2016 at the auditorium of Zila Parishad here on Thursday afternoon.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) M Abdus Samad addressed the meeting as the chief guest and Civil Surgeon Dr Nirmalendu Chowdhury was present as the special guest.

With deputy director of the department Dewan Morshed Kamal in the chair, the meeting was also addressed, among others, by acting Sadar Upazila Parishad Chairman Rashida Begum, UNO Ashraful Momin Khan, medical officer of maternity and child welfare centre Dr Afsari Khanam,manager of Marie Stopes Clinic Jafar Ahmed and journalist Sarker M Shahiduzzaman.

DC M Abdus Samad emphasized on bringing all the fertile couples under the campaign programme so that they could control their unwanted pregnancy and also play role in increasing the contraceptive prevalence rate.

In this context, the DC also asked the officials concerned particularly the field level employees of the department to be more serious, careful and professional in performing their respective duties to attain the cherished goal.

DD M Dewan Morshed Kamal in his concluding speech gave an overview of the district level family planning activities and so far achievements and sought whole hearted cooperation of all to make the week to be observed from May 14 to 19 a grand success.

A number of staff of the department and journalists of the print and electronic media took part in the function.
