Next hearing on rule on judge appointment guideline May 18

The High Court today set May 18 and 19 to hold next hearing on its rule issued on guideline for appointing judges.

A High Court bench comprising Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice Krishna Debnath set the date through an order.

Lawyer Ragib Rauf Choudhury on May 30, 2010, filed a writ seeking direction for guideline on the process for appointing judges. 

Acting on the plea, a High Court bench comprising Justice Md Iman Ali and Justice Obaidul Hassan on June 6, 2010, issued a rule upon the people concerned asking as to why precise guideline would not be set to ensure transparency and competition in the selection process for appointing judges.

Later, another High Court bench appointed seven amicus curiae for assisting the court in holding hearing on the rule.
