The Awami League-led 14-party alliance has decided to constitute resistance committees in all the districts, upazilas and wards and localities across the country to build mass resistance against subversive acts.

This was disclosed by Awami League (AL) presidium member, spokesman of the 14-party alliance and Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim, in his introductory speech at a joint meeting of the alliance at the political office of AL president Sheikh Hasina at Dhanmondi in the city today.

The meeting was convened with a view to making a success the public rally to be organised by the 14-party alliance at the central Shaheed Minar on May 8 (Sunday).

Mohammad Nasim said, "The 14-party alliance was on the field and it will remain on the field. We will organise public rallies in the city wards and localities to build resistance against those who have been indulging in acts of subversion and resistance committees will be constituted in every wards and localities, if required, for the purpose."

In reply to the recent remarks of BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia bringing allegation against Prime Minister's son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, the senior AL leader said, "She (Begum Zia) shall have to prove the false allegation she brought against Joy. Accept the challenge, if you got the courage. If you can't prove your allegation you have to seek apology to the nation."

Mohammad Nasim alleged that the BNP-Jamaat combine has been carrying out serial killings across the country in its bid to change the government in an unconstitutional means.

"At a time when the country's economy has become vibrant and the people are witnessing a stable situation under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the BNP-Jamaat combine has been hatching conspiracies. Under such a situation, a number of serial incidents occurred in the country," he said adding that the motive behind such heinous incidents was nothing but to push the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in a perplexed and awkward position.

"Those who had failed to create anarchy are now frantically trying to stall the trial of the killers of 1971 through secret killings. The trial of the war criminals is going on and it will continue. Like in the post, the 14-party alliance along with the people will resist all the conspiracies of the BNP-Jamaat combine," the spokesman of the alliance said categorically.

Calling upon all to make the Sunday's (May 8) public rally at the Central Shaheed Minar a grand success, Mohammad Nasim, who chaired the meeting, said that the 14-party alliance has decided to hold the rally on Sunday in protest of the recent Kalabagan killing in the capital and the murder of a teacher of Rajshahi University.
