The girl found dead on a street in the capital's Siddheswari area was identified as a student at a private university and a police officer's daughter

She was named as 21-year-old Rubaiyat Sharmin Rumpa, a first-year undergraduate student in the English department of Stamford University.

Confirming the report, Ramna Police Station's Officer-in-Charge (OC) Monirul Islam said the cause of her death is still uncertain, but they investigate the murder.

Rumpa lived in the capital's Shantibagh with her mother and brother while her father was stationed in Habiganj.

Police recovered the body on a Siddheswari Circular Road alley in front of the Criminal Investigation Department headquarters in Malibagh earlier on Wednesday night.

Ramna Police Station Inspector Jahirul Islam said local people thought she might have died after falling out of a building as they heard a thudding noise before they found her lying on the street.
